GHR Foundation Academic Excellence Grant Student Conference Presentation Award Application

GHR Academic Excellence Grant Student Conference Presentation Awards are accepted on a rolling basis. Students may apply for funding prior to submission of their conference presentation proposal. Final funding approval is contingent on acceptance for presentation as well as authorship.

To apply for these funds, students must individually complete the form below which automatically forwards your application to the review committee. A committee of faculty will then review all applications. Awardees will be notified within 2-4 weeks if they are approved for funding. Funds are to be used June 1-May 31 of the academic year they are awarded.

Award Amounts

Awards of up to $2,000 are available to students who are presenting work connected to one of the key components of the GHR Foundation Academic Excellence Grant (AEG), as representatives of St. Catherine University. GHR Academic Excellence Grant Overview

The purpose of the Academic Excellence Grant is to improve societal health and well-being by preparing high quality providers capable of practicing in emerging health related environments focused on interprofessional collaborative practice (ICP), cultural fluency, and ecological approaches to health across the lifespan.

Your conference presentation should be related to one of the following areas defined in the GHR AEG Conceptual Framework:

  • Interprofessional Collaborative Practice (ICP) - when multiple health workers from different backgrounds work together with patients, families, carers, and communities to deliver the highest quality of care (WHO, 2010)
  • Cultural Fluency - ability to navigate the many dimensions of culture needed to build shared meaning and understanding with people from other cultures. It is comprised of several skills such as working with ambiguity, flexibility, respect, empathy and adaptability (Inoue, 2007)
  • Ecological Approach - grounded in the understanding that the conditions that result in individual health or illness arise out of the interaction between an individual’s traits and their physical and sociocultural environment and are influenced on multiple levels (e.g. intrapersonal, interpersonal, organizational, community and policy (Sallis & Owen, 2015)
