CONTACT INFORMATION SUBMISSION
for COMPARATIVE CERTIFICATION COURSE

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:  You are registering for the Spector Training Comparative Certification Training Program. This program is to bring your officer to the level of competency {knowledgeable} in each subject area required by CT POSTC consistent with a recruit {completing} the Basic Police Recruit Training Academy.  Please be aware of the following requirements.  Please be sure to have your officer read this information carefully.

The majority of training sessions are conducted in ZOOM.  You are required to have your video on at all times during the sessions per the CT POSTC Rules. Please arrive in the Zoom Room at least five minutes early so the trainer may begin the class on time. The classes are scheduled in a very specific format, and you must attend all unless your training officer, with our directive, tells you otherwise. The trainers move through material based on the student’s comprehension and some subjects overlap. Therefore, some topics might take longer, and some might take less time. Additionally, your trainer might move some of the material around.    It is important that you speak up if you are unsure about the material. Trainers also provide their contact information. You are encouraged to reach out to them with any questions or for clarifications at any time throughout this program.

The only class that you are officially tested on is Search and Seizure.  We provide a handout created by the Police Academy for your review and to use as a study guide.  You are strongly encouraged to reach out to your trainer on this subject after his class if you feel you need any questions answered.  This test must be taken at the Police Academy.

Your moderators in Zoom are Kristi Perkins 860.595.7143 or Tammy LaBonte 860.593.6550.  If you run into any issues with connectivity, etc., you should reach out to them in that order before reaching out to your training officer. You will receive emails throughout the course timeframe that will include important information such as handouts, class changes, etc.  Please be sure to read these emails carefully.   You are required to have Looseleaf Title 14 Book and the Police Field Manual (The Red Book).  Your Training Officers will be made aware of this, but you should follow up as you'll need these to follow along with the Motor Vehicle and Penal Code Classes.

Other than the SS test, there is one class, DMV Per Se, that we sometimes must send you to take in person due to instructor availability.  This class is taught by the State of CT Division of DMV legal instructors and we include it in the schedule to make it easier for all involved.

Military Officers enrolling have some additional classes required by POST.  We will help your agency determine which classes those are and try to include them where we can, or refer you to where you can obtain them.

CLASSES WE CANNOT COVER THAT ARE USUALLY REQUIRED: NCIC / COLLECT, Intoxilyzer (Current Device – 4 hours of training and written exam), Firearms (3 Hours of firearms including 2 of qualifications, minimum score of 80% and one hour of use of force training, department policies); First Responder Course- (EMR or submission of a current certificate if department personnel are designated first responders); NIMS (ICS 100 & IS 700 can be online based); ARIDE (Check POST website for offerings); Less Than Lethal (Area 302) – this is agency specific – call with any questions CT Information Systems (Area 628), TIMS (623A).
