Want to get that perfect bird photo in Palo Duro Canyon or across the country?
Join us to learn how to get that perfect photo shot from bird photo expert Vicki Wilmarth. Wilmarth was a winner in the 2024 Palo Duro Canyon Photo Contest, sponsored by Partners in Palo Duro Canyon Foundation.
Wilmarth and her husband have camped in half of the nation’s national parks and many state parks, spotting birds and wildlife for several decades. She started her photography hobby in high school and has focused on bird photography in the last six years since becoming a serious bird watcher. She spends most of her free time adding new birds to her “life list” and photographing them in their habitats. She co-teaches an adult education birding class at Amarillo College. She is an administrator of the Birds of the Texas Panhandle Facebook page. When not outdoors, Wilmarth is a full-time employment lawyer.
The class is Saturday, August 24. It meets at 8 am at the Lone Star Interpretive Theater. Participants will spend about 60-90 minutes in the field looking for a variety of natural subjects, especially birds. Then the class will drive to the Tasajillo Pavilion in the Juniper Camping Area for another 60-90 minutes of instruction and sharing. The class will end about 11 a.m.
**Payment will be collected at the visitors center located in the park between August 17th - 23rd**
All proceeds from this program will go to Partners in Palo Duro Canyon Foundation. The foundation supports many important needs within the park, most recently buying gates for all trailheads to keep visitors off the trails and safe when temperature alerts are issued in the summer.
