Roadside breakdown
In the event of a roadside breakdown or malfunction the driver must do the following: -
• Drive to a safe location if possible.
• Students’ safety is top priority and if the vehicle is in danger they should be moved to a safe environment. In particular, if forced to park on the hard shoulder of a motorway or verge of a dual carriageway all passengers should immediately disembark and, with the driver, remain behind the safety barrier. The police should be informed immediately.
• Switch on hazard warning lights.
• If exiting the vehicle put on the high-vis vest.
• If appropriate and safe, set the provided warning triangle on the same side of the road at least 45 metres back. But do not use on motorways.
• Contact the Transport Manager or the school (for phone numbers see back cover) and give details of where and why you have stopped. If you cannot get through ring OneBus on 0203 301 6553. If necessary, ask for another bus or other vehicles to collect the students.
• No student should be allowed to investigate or repair the problem. Once passengers’ safety is assured the driver should consult with the Transport Manager regarding repair of the vehicle.
