SRA International Young Scholars Program

The International Young Scholars Program was established by SRA to support the travel of international scholars to the SRA Biennial Meeting. The goal of the program is to facilitate collegial scholarly interaction among international young scholars and leaders in the field of adolescent research during the meeting. To accomplish this, each international young scholar is paired with a mentor whose research interests are aligned or complementary to his/her own. In addition, recipients of travel awards receive complimentary registration to the biennial meeting.

Qualifications:

Recipients of travel awards must be citizens and residents of a low- or middle-income country as defined by World Bank criteria. Those currently enrolled in a graduate program in the U.S. or from other economically advanced, developed countries are not eligible for this program.
Typically, scholars who either are enrolled currently in a graduate training program or have received their Ph.D. degrees or equivalents within the past seven years and are from a developing country are the ideal candidates for this program.
Program participants must be SRA members
Applicants must submit a proposal to the Call for Submissions. Only applicants whose submissions are accepted to the Biennial Meeting program will be considered for the International Young Scholars Program.
Applicants must be comfortable presenting and discussing their research in-depth with their mentor (and others) in English.

Selection Criteria: in order of priority

Applicants who are from a low- or middle-income country as defined by the World Bank.
Applicants with the highest numerical score from reviewer ratings on their accepted Biennial Meeting submission and who (1) are the chair or first author, or a panelist on a submission, and/or (2) have more than one accepted submission.
Applicants who have been members of SRA for one year or more.

There is recognition and prestige associated with presenting one’s research at an international meeting. Attendance at an SRA Biennial Meeting provides the opportunity for young scientists to share their research findings with audiences interested in adolescent development. The knowledge gained and networking opportunities experienced by the international young scholars offer great potential for expanding research horizons. Just as importantly, international young scholars expand the knowledge of SRA Biennial Meeting attendees about adolescents in other countries.
